Acoustic Tube Maintenance
There are 2 ways to clean out the tube. The simplest would be to remove the tube from the speaker/transducer assembly. Keep the ear insert you are using attached to the tube. Using a can of compressed air with the red extension nozzle, insert directly to the bottom of the tube and hold ear insert side in your other hand with a paper towel to collect what is blown out of the tube.
A more thorough way is the begin by heating up water in a mug for about 30-45 seconds in a microwave. Carefully remove the mug of water and submerged the tube completely in the water for 2-5 minutes, when the water has cooled down, take out the tube and begin the steps mentioned above, allow to dry for 1-2 hours on a clean, dry surface. This method will ensure all debris is removed from the tube and help the life of the tube by removing all skin oils which eventually stiffen the tube, making brittle and permanently damage the tube.
Your kit should sound like new after either method. It is difficult to time cleanings as the factors are environmental and personal. But in the summer months when there is an increase in humidity and sweat, you may find a cleaning once a season will keep the kit fresh.
